The Mediterranean diet (MD) consists of consuming 25g to 50g of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) daily. At least 5mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives, including oleuropeian and tyrosol, are found in 20g of EVOO. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommends using EVOO on a regular basis to maintain a balanced diet.
